MODULE 1 - STUDYING HUMAN ANATOMY 

In this session students will cover the principles of the anatomical position, navigating a 3D specimen, dissection planes and interpreting medical imagery.

TAKE PART IN THE DISSECTION OF REAL ORGAN SPECIMENS.

MODULE 2 - HEAD AND NECK ANATOMY 

Students will conduct a complete dissection of the head and neck to learn the vital structures of the brain, skull, face & neck region. Students will dissect a real brain its cranial meninges, dissect a cranial nerve as well as the musculature and vasculature of the face and neck region.

 

Pathologies covered: meningitis, stroke, haemorrhage, aphasias & head & neck trauma.

MODULE 3 - THORACIC ANATOMY  

Moving into the trunk students will conduct a dissection of the thoracic block, this will include the trachea and bronchial tree, the lungs, diaphragm as well as the heart and major blood vessels. Students will cover the mechanism of breathing and ventilation, gas exchange, acoustics of the thorax as well as the anatomy of the heart, its electrical conductivity and interpreting the ECG.

 

Pathologies covered: COPD, respiratory infections, aspiration, atherosclerosis, pulmonary oedema, myocardial infarction and ECG cardiac abnormalities.

MODULE 4 - ABDOMINAL ANATOMY

As the exclusive licence holder this is an experience you can’t obtain elsewhere on any other course. You will have the rare opportunity to dissect a real gastrointestinal tract observing all of the digestive structures including the oesophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas and small & large intestines.

 

Pathologies covered: Chron’s disease, IBD, stomach hernia, appendicitis, pancreatitis, liver cirrhosis.

MODULE 5 - WARD SKILLS

Students will undertake ward skills including patient care, aseptic technique & infection control, and the pillars and ethics of medical practice for allied healthcare professionals. You will record basic patient data in observation charts including and ECG, blood pressure and temperature.

LEARN REAL CLINICAL SKILLS.

FINISH 2.30PM

Modules 6-8 are recommended for students applying for Medicine & Dentistry only and finish at 4.30pm.

MODULE 6 - TRAUMA MEDICINE

You will learn how health professionals triage patients admitted in A&E, the principle of the golden hour and paramedicine in the field. The A-E system of trauma management as well as managing haemorrhage.

MODULE 7 - CLINICAL INTERVENTIONS 

In this session you will learn how vaccines work to protect the body against infection along with the mechanism of action for a number of drugs used to treat psychotic conditions and systemic infections. You will prepare drug solutions as well administer intravenous dosages based on patient mass.

MODULE 8 ONLINE - MEDICAL ETHICS & THE UCAT EXAM

As a participant at MED-SOC you will take away access to our online Medical Ethics & UCAT session. This is an online support tool delivered via the MEDICPLAYER platform, you can log in to an online course to better understand the UCAT exam as well as practice questions around medical ethics.
